Getting Organized and Re-Organized
Getting things together so I can be a productive writer again
Beginnings are hard. Starting over is more challenging.
Many things in life are intimidating, but no more to me than staring at a blank page. Unfortunately, I have been doing a lot of that lately. Writing has not come easy to me over the last months or past year. I have stopped and started three books over the previous year, including picking up book 2 of the Celtic Sisters and starting it over twice. Still, I find myself stuck in a place that I have never felt before where writing is concerned. That is why now may be the perfect time for me to pick up writing here on Substack.
The Time is Right
So why am I doing this now, on here? I have a few reasons for doing this space. I want to see myself in the writing groove again. Even if it isn’t when I am writing something, I feel productive. Sure, I always have my website that I can write on, but something about doing it here on Substack appeals to me. Substack is an excellent venue for writers, and I follow some people here, so I thought it might be the forum for me to try to spark the writing embers again.
Why am I Inviting You?
That is certainly a reasonable question! I’m hoping you will be part of my community so you can share this space with me. I won’t just write about my books. Frankly, I would get bored with that too. I want this to be a place where we can have some common ground to talk about the important things to me and you. That means I’ll do more than write about my books (small-town romance if you aren’t familiar with my work), but also about reading and the writing process. There is much more to my life beyond the realm of writing that I want to share with you. I love cooking and baking and will throw some recipes your way. I’ll also post links and articles about various topics I might find interesting or funny. I love horror movies and baseball and have been an autograph collector for many years. Don’t be surprised if you see me post a Question of the Week - I often use it to get my brain working and help me with my writing, but I also find it interesting to see how others might answer my questions. I am also an ICU and coma survivor and deal with PICS (Post Intensive Care Syndrome). I am a strong advocate for greater awareness for assistance and help for those who have spent time in the ICU and have had difficulties with life after their ICU experience. Many people are unaware of this, and I will gladly share information and what I have learned during my journey.
Your Expectations and Mine
I plan to post once a week, perhaps twice, if I am particularly motivated by a subject or idea. Posts will likely occur on Wednesdays, as I always seem to have the least going on and have more time for things like newsletters, social media, and more. I want to share this free space, and I would love it if you felt like you could share it, too! Let people know it is here, and we can all go on this trip together.
Are You Ready to Begin?
That’s about all I have to say for this first go-round. I have wanted to get this off the ground for a while, so I am glad it is up and running. What can you do? You can subscribe, share, and tell me what you want to see from this space. I am open to any suggestions so we can create a fun spot to share ideas. Get ready because more will be coming soon. I almost forgot - You will probably see plenty of Chester, my King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and trusted companion on many days and journeys. I'll leave with a picture of him. Until next time!
